GAMBIT COMMUNICATIONS TO PREPARE NETWORK ENGINEERS FOR DISASTER SCENARIOS WITH RELEASE OF MIMIC™ SIMULATOR 5.40

MIMIC aims to improve enterprise network management

Nashua, NH – June 24, 2002 Gambit Communications, a leading network simulation tools provider, today announced the release of MIMIC™ Simulator 5.40. Aiming to improve the quality of network management techniques and to help reduce the network downtime, MIMIC 5.40 will produce an immediate return on investment for users, especially in the enterprise sector. It provides an effective environment for companies to evaluate management applications and policy scripts prior to deployment; to conduct and practice disaster preparedness and recovery scenarios; to provide operator training; and to plan for future infrastructure growth.

"With MIMIC 5.40, users will be able to create extensive virtual network environments that include a very wide range of devices," said Uwe Zimmermann, President of Gambit Communications. "This provides network engineers with the ability to practice management techniques on complex networks. In addition, they can record their own networks, so that everything they do can then be applied to the production network. In turn this will lead to a better prepared and trained IT staff and a more reliable production network."

The MIMIC Simulator suite consists of a family of network simulation products, including MIMIC SNMP Simulator, MIMIC IOS Simulator and MIMIC Cable Modem Simulator. It supports SNMPv1, v2, v3, Cisco IOS, DHCP, TFTP, ToD, DOCSIS, MGCP/NCS, Telnet and CLI. Some of the new features in MIMIC 5.40 include:

MIMIC Simulator 5.40 will be available in early June and will be demonstrated at N+I Las Vegas in booth 1409.

About MIMIC Simulator

MIMIC provides an inexpensive way for enterprises, device vendors, management software developers and outsourcers to demo, test, develop, train and certify management applications without purchasing equipment and maintaining labs for those functions. MIMIC has the ability to simulate up to 10,000 devices from one workstation. MIMIC simulations can be distributed over multiple platforms for enterprise simulation testing of even larger environments. MIMIC includes user-friendly wizards for importing new MIBs, recording large networks, creating device simulations and network topologies, and provides full support for SNMP(v1, v2, v2c, v3), RMON(1, 2), DHCP, TFTP, ToD, DOCSIS and MGCP/NCS, as well as Telnet and IOS.
