Gambit’s MIMIC Cuts Avaya Communications’ Demo Costs

Allows demos of Avaya’s CajunView from sales peoples’ laptops

Basking Ridge, NJ -- January 8, 2001 -- Gambit Communications today announced that Avaya (NYSE:AV) has selected the MIMIC Simulator to power their CajunView laptop product demos.

Avaya CajunView is a comprehensive suite of SNMP-based applications that simplifies the task of managing complex enterprise networks.  It allows businesses to configure, monitor and control their networks, and to prioritize traffic to enhance voice quality.  It also includes Avaya SMON (Switch MONitoring), a tool that allows system administrators to view and analyze traffic on their entire network.

By adopting the simulation capability, Avaya will be able to avoid some of the capital, shipping, and personnel costs involved in sophisticated customer demos for its latest release of CajunView version 3, which was announced recently.

Without MIMIC’s simulation capability, Avaya’s hardware and software demonstrations were set up at or near customer sites.  Being able to conduct demos on laptops is more cost effective and makes the sales cycle faster.

“With MIMIC simulating our switches, the sales force can show CajunView exactly as they would on a live network, right from their laptops,” said Bob Shaw, marketing engineer, Avaya.  “Customers can see how CajunView handles alarms, how easily the switches can be diagnosed and configured, and how the different switched network segments are monitored simultaneously.  And MIMIC is totally transparent to the sales force, so there’s no additional training time involved.”

The new demo tool has already been introduced to the Avaya worldwide direct sale force, and will soon be available to channel partners.

“With MIMIC’s simulation capability, there is no difference between running a demo with a real device or a simulated device,” said Pankaj Shah, CEO of Gambit Communications.  “The Avaya engineering team uses MIMIC in the CajunView development and test cycle, and Gambit is pleased that the simulation capability is now being used by sales and marketing.  By simulating the hardware devices in so many areas, Avaya is realizing savings across the operation.”
